HOW WE BECAME AKITA BREEDERS - some words about us and our animals

Long ago, by looking books about dog breeds, the hole family was enthusiastic about the same breed: the Akita Inu (Japanese Akita). But our "love story" with this remarkable, fascinating Japanese dogs really began in 2000, when the little brindle female Rakuna came to us. Immediately our whole little family was under her spell. Rakuna is so gentle and devoted, she gives us every day so much love, affection and joy, so we soon decided to associate her a friend: Samourai, a red male Akita. Since 2001 Rakuna and Samourai live together and they are the best friends in the world - and our best friends of course, too! With them and from them we have learned a lot, about the breed, about dog behaviour in general and about dog education, assisted by kind and gentle Akita-friends in several countries.

Soon our affection for these wonderful dogs turned into fascination. We wanted to share this fascination with other people. The wish was born to breed, so Daiunme Furinkazan came to us in 2004, a lovely, gentle red bitch, full of vivacity, but also soft and devoted.

For our Akita Inu kennel we have choosen the name "Kumagai no" ( from the bear valley ). Why? Well, before we settled down in Bergerac in the south-west of France, we lived in a small village, which's name is Urval ( from latin ursus vallum: valley of bears ).

Finally in 2006, the first "Kumagai no" puppies were born. A dream has become reality! Our family would have liked to keep all the Akita-babies with us, but our mind told us not to do this, only to keep one of them, but what puppy should it be? We could not find an agreement, because all of the pups were so wonderful. Our final decision was to keep "only" two of them, the boys Kumagai no B'Katsutoshi and Kumagai no B'Kiyoshi. We did never regret this.

Some time ago a Japanese breeder said: "An Akita s like a drug. When you possess your first Akita, you can't stop to have more." Smart, this man, he knew what he said. The fruit of our passion was our sixth Akita, Tsubaki Hime of Amayadori Ken, even as a puppy a real beauty, attached to us, smooth, soft, very calm.

From the second litter of Daiunme, we decided to keep Kumagai no Daiyoko with us, a smooth and beautiful red Akita girl, full of vivacity and very clever.

Meanwhile another charming Akita female brings much fun in our live: Torahana go Shun'you Kensha, imported from Spain, a beautiful and vivacious little brindle girl, who immediately was adopted by Daiunme.

In April 2012, Yoko gave birth to one single puppy. How could one resist to such an adorable little Akita boy? We couldn't! So the red male Hikaru Genji stayed with us, mum Yoko, grand-mother Daiunme, his "uncles" Kiyo and Toshi and the other Akitas of Gueyte.

Whenever we introduce ourselves, dogs are first. Well, we are Gabriele and Heinz Penndorf. With our youngest daughter Julia, we live since 1999 in France, exactly in an old farm-house in Bergerac, in the beautiful Perigord in the southwest of France. Here the dogs have lots of space and lots of possibilities to play and to run. The cats, the horses, the donkeys and the sheep also enjoy the large meadows.

The education of the puppies is our and their Mum's turn, but the other dogs help as well as they can. Even the young dogs meanwhile are perfect babysitters. Aditionally, the puppies get to know unknown people, big and small dogs of other breeds, other animals, might be with us or at the horse farm in our neighbourhood or on the market of Bergerac or in the near by forest ...

Our dogs don't live in outside kennels, but with us in the house, in and with the family. We share all our time with them and can't imagine a life without our Akitas.

Rakuna, Daiunme and Katsutoshi are successful in obedience. Even when our Akita are pets first and show-dogs second, nevertheless they participate with succes in national and international dog-shows. We are especially proud to have already three Champions among our dogs, two of them - Kiyoshi and Daiyoko -were born in our kennel.

We are sure, during the next years puppies from other litters will take Kiyoshi and Daiyoko as an example!

With the following pages you will get to know something about our Akitas, our life together with them and the other animals, which live at our farm, our Japanese Akita Inu puppies (planned litters or available puppies) and all our former litters.
